YogaReach - HEARTfelt Yoga Embrace Abilities Class
Director HEARTfelt Yoga: Heidi Wuescher
Teaching diverse Special Needs learners to embrace and strengthen ability
The adaptive nature of the YogaReach Embrace Abilities class makes it an excellent fit for children, teens, and young adults with varying levels of ability. The term "disability" is used to identify individuals facing a wide array of mental, emotional, and physical struggles.
We work with teens to adults with the following diagnoses:
Autism, deaf-blindness, deafness, developmental delays, emotional disturbance, hearing impaired, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impaired, specific learning disabilities, speech or language impairments, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment including blindness*
Because it has been developed by an experienced teacher, school psychologist, and therapeutic yoga instructor, the YogaReach philosophy is an effective holistic approach to assisting diverse learners and developing abilities such as concentration, focus, and socialization skills as well as helping increase positive behaviors. Students engage in mindful breathing, focused movements, instruction comprehension, and bodily awareness which helps students gain confidence and a better understanding of how their actions affect others.
We evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each student and develop an individualized approach for instruction. The YogaReach approach fosters a class environment rich in physical and emotional growth as well as one that empowers students to develop skills for use in academic settings. Our classes have multiple instructors to provide effective support and assist individuals on their own path of discovery.
YogaReach Embrace Abilities class helps students strengthen:
-
Focus and concentration (executive function)
-
Flexibility and balance
-
Language and communication skills
-
Self-esteem and self-acceptance
-
Social connection and physical resilience
